The Assam Cabinet has recommended the withdrawal of the Disturbed Areas Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act (Afspa) from the entire state, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Currently, Afspa is in effect in eight districts of Assam, which have been designated as "disturbed areas." Sarma had met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought the complete withdrawal of Afspa.
